This document explains why Gothic Bubbles’ 3D‑printed items are not classified as toys under the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 and instead fall under the General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR). It forms part of our UKCA‑aligned technical documentation.

1. Product Category Covered

This justification applies to all Gothic Bubbles 3D‑printed items, including:

  • Articulated dragons, spiders, creatures, animals
  • Fidget models and desk pets
  • Decorative figures and ornaments
  • Display accessories, stands, bases, organisers
  • Novelty items, themed models, seasonal items
  • Custom 3D‑printed designs

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, all items are non‑toy decorative products intended for adults.

Under UK law, an item is only a toy if:

It is designed or intended for use in play by children under 14 years of age.

To classify an item as a toy, both of the following must be true:

  • PLA softens at ~60°C and is unsuitable for outdoor or rough child use.
  • Layer lines and joints are not engineered for toy‑grade durability.

Conclusion:

The design characteristics clearly indicate non‑toy decorative items, not children’s playthings.

4. Intended Use Test — Manufacturer’s Declared Purpose

Gothic Bubbles explicitly declares the intended use of all 3D‑printed items as:

Decorative collectible / adult desk model / fidget for ages 14+. Not a toy.

We do not market these items as toys. We do not target children. We do not describe them as suitable for play.
