Bastet was a Goddess worshiped in Ancient Egypt. Originally she was celebrated as a lioness Goddess a role she shared with another deity known as Sekhmet. Eventually, the two deities were characterised as two aspects of the same Goddess, with Sekhmet representing the warrior protector and Bastet who began to be depicted as a cat representing a gentler and more nurturing aspect of a lioness.
